Guidelines on India Travel

Jamwai Journeys
(Please review these carefully before your journey — they help make your trip smoother, safer, and more enjoyable!)

Itinerary Flexibility & Disclaimers

  • While we design your trip to follow the published route, flexibility is built into your itinerary. Occasionally, unforeseen circumstances may require adjustments.
  • Daily travel details are guidelines, not guarantees—destinations and wildlife sightings depend on local conditions.
  • Approximate travel times are provided; actual durations may vary due to traffic, weather, or local factors. Use these as general planning aids.

Required Pre-Travel Documentation

  • Passport Copy: To secure internal travel bookings (e.g., flights, permits), please send us a coloured copy of the passport you’ll travel with as soon as possible.

Embracing India’s Unique Environment

  • India is vibrant and diverse—unlike anywhere else in the world. You may encounter traffic congestion, variable hygiene standards, bustling crowds, or patience-testing bureaucracy. View these as part of the adventure, not inconveniences.
  • Local rhythms may not align with expectations. Trains may run late, power may fluctuate, and menus may change on the fly. Staying adaptable and lighthearted will turn surprises into cherished memories.

Support Team & Local Collaboration

  • Your Indian Tour leader is there to simplify travel logistics, offer cultural insight, recommend places to eat, and introduce you to local experiences. While not always a formal guide, they bring valuable local knowledge.
  • Expert local guides may join for certain sites or activities to enhance your experience with deeper insights.

Meals & Dining Culture

  • Meals that are included will be clearly stated. In most cases, meals are at your discretion—this gives you the flexibility to explore restaurants, Local Delicacies, and your food prefrences.
  • India is a haven for vegetarians—expect a rich array of flavors and vegetarian dishes throughout your journey. Ask your guide for trusted recommendations!

Modes of Transport

You may experience a variety of transport types, each with its own charm and quirks:

Trains

  • A quintessential part of Indian travel—expect both chaos and camaraderie.
  • Options include AC 2-tier, AC 3-tier, sleeper class, and chair cars.
  • Train station vendors often board to sell snacks and chai.
  • Western-style amenities (e.g., toilets or food) may be limited—carry essentials like toilet paper, sanitizer, or snacks.
  • Trains may run late—carry something to occupy your time and stay flexible.

Road Travel

  • Indian roads are often narrow and unpredictable. Horns are widely used—sometimes even playing music!

Even short distances can take much longer than expected—plan accordingly and avoid tight schedules, especially during monsoon season.

Local Flights

  • Domestic flights are typically included where noted.

Standard allowance: 1 checked bag (up to 15 kg) and 1 carry-on (~7 kg). Any excess weight may incur fees at check-in.

Accommodation & Rooming

  • India offers a range of lodging styles—from guesthouses and hotels to unique local stays. Many properties may differ from Western standards in terms of cleanliness or amenities.
  • Power outages are common; some hotels have generators, but they may not always be functional. Keep a flashlight handy.
  • “Private room” upgrades are available, and vary by trip.

Joining Instructions & Arrival Process

  • Your joining location and any included hotel transfers will be detailed in your travel documents or communicated via Us or your booking agent.
  • In case of arrival delay or issues locating your group, contact your leader or use emergency contact info immediately.

Cultural Tips & Responsible Travel

  • Dress modestly: Cover shoulders and knees—especially at religious or rural sites. Loose, breathable clothing works best.
  • Respect local customs—ask before photographing people or sacred places.
  • Responsible tourism: Avoid activities that harm wildlife—e.g., elephant rides. Choose ethical experiences over sensational ones.

Weather & Seasonal Advice

  • Bring waterproof gear during monsoon and warm layers if traveling to mountainous regions.

Health & Safety

  • Water and foodborne ailments (like “Delhi Belly”) are common—avoid street food unless it looks hygienic; carry hand sanitizer and rehydration tablets.
  • In high altitudes, stay hydrated, acclimatize gradually, and be alert to early signs of altitude sickness.
  • Use safe travel practices: keep valuables secure, be cautious of scams (e.g., fake guides), and avoid isolated areas at night.
  • Consider travel insurance that includes medical evacuation—especially for remote locations.

Legal Requirements & Permits

  • A valid passport (minimum 6 months validity and 2 blank pages) and visa are mandatory. Check your requirements carefully as rules may change.
  • Certain regions (e.g., parts of the Northeast, Andaman Islands) require Protected Area Permits (PAP) or Restricted Area Permits (RAP). We will help arrange these where needed.

Packing Essentials

Documents & Planning

  • Passport & visa copies, travel insurance, e-tickets, and emergency contacts
  • Color copies and digital backups are advisable
